Bijous Camping

Swanage Bijou Camping at Kirkwood Park

A precious rural gem set within the town of Swanage!

We re-open on  friday July 27th 2012 at mid-day and are open most of August - check your holiday dates with us!!

Closest site and easy walking distance to Swanages town centre and sandy beaches!

The whole camping area is on LEVEL GROUND and is a 7 minute level walk through parkland to the town and beach!

Set in a secluded 6 acre field and surrounded by high hedges, backed by open public land and over 100meters away from the nearest roads or houses the ‘Bijou Camping’ site at Kirkwood Park is by far the closest of any campsite in Swanage to the town centre and beach.

One free car parking space is provided for each tent and we are so close to the centre and beach that we hope you will want save the outside parking costs and faff by just leaving your car with us and walking.

The camping area is car free, and, while we recognise this means moving your gear about 40 meters (free barrows are provided!) it also means no car radios, no early morning engines starting up and no worries about kids and traffic in the camping field.

The surrounding 20 acres of fields are public open parkland space for kite flying or ball games with a free modern children’s adventure play ground and free new skateboard park only about 80 meters away.

We aim to provide a site like 'camping used to be'!  Not too many fussy rules, you pick the pitch that suits you best - all we ask is that our guests show reasonable respect to each other and our neighbours. We aim to control late night noise with two simple guidelines, hushed voices from 11 - and SILENCE from midnight.  We are a pretty easy going lot, but the site is patrolled at night to make sure these guidelines are adhered to as a courtesy to other campers. Young and single sex groups may be requested to provide a returnable £25 per person quiet pledge bond.  If this doesn't suit you then please choose a different site!

Simple but clean facilities are provided on site with mains connected toilets, free hot showers (with no charge for use and plugs for ladies hairdryers etc.) and hot water washing up facilities. We also recharge your mobiles, blow up your air matresses and freeze your ice packs for free! Maps and info on walks and things to do are available in the reception and we are always happy to help you choose what to do with your day!

Want to camp but don't have a tent?  Why not do it in style by orgainsing your own luxury bell tent through www.ourbigbluesky.com ? They are a separate organisation running near our site so you have to talk to them about prices and bookings but they are reliable and are customer concious and even come and put up your tent in advance of your arrival and furnish it for you!

The burning of SMALL open fires and bar-b-q's are allowed by your tent but only on a raised steel tray provided free (but with deposit) by us. For obvious reasons fires must never be lit on the ground and must be attended at all times, dwindling from 11pm and extinguished by midnight.  We also have to stop fires when conditions are either very windy or very dry.  Reasonably priced campfire packs are for sale in the shop

We include a half price round of pitch and putt for anyone who stays with us and options of additional parking and use of off site leisure facilities are available at extra charge.

Important notes:- We prefer car movements to be kept to a minimum out of courtesy to our neighbours. Parking with us and walking is easier, greener, cheaper and healthier!

Weekend bookings (which include a friday or saturday night) now have to be for a minimum of two nights.

Access to the camping area is by foot only.  We advise you to carefully consider the 40 meter (approx) walk over rough ground to and from your tent prior to booking and do not recommend this site if you have any member of the family who cannot easily walk this distance in the dark!

We consider it important for tourism in Swanage to have as little impact on the environment as possible and so we present every party with a recycling bucket on their arrival and monitor waste to ensure that every camper undertakes the simple but important task of sorting out their recycleable materials.  We recognise that your stay is about relaxing and kicking back but we think it is important to take a few moments to care for your (and my!) childrens world!  Last year the recycling got to a respectable 50% of all waste so please help us to break that record this year!

See our booking page for full details of booking and our deposit and cancellation policy.

We hope you will have a really good memorable holiday stay with us!!
